MediaTek Helio X12 Chipset On Its Way, Successor To The Helio X10

MediaTek, is one of the most powerful upper mid-range CPU maker and leading supplier of chips for Chinese mobile platform has took a step forward to battle with Qualcomm and its Snapdragon SoC in 2016. Now, MediaTek aims to reverse a recent fall in profits by stealing market share in high-end handset components from the giant Qualcomm. MediaTek is said to be preparing an upgraded version of Helio X10 to compete with the rivals. First the MediaTek MT6795 was essentially branded into the X10 chipset and for a time was the flagship chip of the range and today according to the report, the chip maker has with it the successor to compete with others, planning to introduce Helio X12 SoC.
MediaTek has created a 10-core processor for phones
Qualcomm have a long relationship of building System-on-Chips for Android devices, and their flagship chipset is the one that captures the most, like with the case of Snapdragon 810, but Qualcomm has other range of chipsets sitting lower down in the segment, including the mid-ranger level 200-series and 400-and 600-chipsets. MediaTek to start to emulate now than later. Announced Helio X10-based around eight ARM Cortex-A53 application cores organized into two clusters. One of which has the maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz and the other 2.2GHz. Coupled with PowerVr 6200 GPU for video work and built-in 30fps-capable H.265 Ultra HD 4K2K video encoding.
Decided to produce a new redesigned CPU and said to be working on more advanced chipsets, such as Helio X20 – features ten application cores arranged over three tiers, but the reports today suggests that MediaTek team are working on an improved version of X10, the Helio X12, rumored to be preparing in order to take on the budget-range competition from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600-series and Samsung’s 2015 flagship SoC, the Exynos 7422.
Helio X12 coming soon to compete with Qualcomm, Samsung Exynos
In terms of improvements the MediaTek Helio X12, the chipset will contain eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.25 GHz. The GPU is upgraded to the Imagination GX6250, which includes new hardware features such as OpenCL 1.2, OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan. There’s modem baseband is upgraded to a world-mode Category 6 LTE unit with support for fourteen bands. The Helio X12 will still be constructed on a 28nm process size, which will use an improved manufacturing technique – set to reduce all-things-equal power consumption by around 15%.
The Helio X12 also gains the same improved camera, imaging and playback technologies as first seen in the more powerful Helio chipsets such as the P10 and X20. Alleged AnTuTu benchmark score is around 55,000 and the chip will use the MT6795X reference number and appears to be pin-compatible with the order model, which will undoubtedly make it easier for manufacturers to upgrade their devices.

The story doesn’t end here and another one starts, like Xiaomi are also preparing a device to use the MediaTek X12 chip, but the concept of a mild refresh on an existing chipset appears perfectly sensibe.

Comparison with MediaTek Helio X10

The model number “MT6795X”: List of similarities and improved features when comparing the two:
  • Slightly higher clock speeds (Thanks to the new HPC+ Process)
